road to Emmaus

‘I hear her voice
In the mornin hour she calls me
The radio reminds me of my home far away
And drivin down the road I get a feelin
That I should have been home yesterday, yesterday

Country Roads, take me home
To the place I belong….’
(‘Take Me Home, Country Roads’ by John Denvir, Taffy Nivert and Bill Danoff included on the 1971 album ‘Poems Prayers and Promises)

Take a moment…stop reading..
stop ‘clicking’ the mouse..

And pay attention to your breaths.

Ok, onward.
On the Road to Emmaus
13 Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles[a] from Jerusalem. 14 They were talking with each other about everything that had happened.

Driving down Grove, I see Riccardo standing on his porch, waving his arms.

He may have appeared as one who hoped to be rescued..

But miles from my ‘world’…I was the stranger

And it was me looking to be seen by him…

And to sit and chat in the sun on his porch

 at this ‘outpost’
                                      discussing things with each other.

Like the scene from Jaws where Sam Quint and Matt Hooper were comparing shark bite scars..

In a neighborhood with burned out buildings, and shootings.

15 As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them;

We sit on this oasis

talking about the miracle of still being alive.

Given the extra breath to have come this far..to finally believe in Jesus.

We talked of highs and lows.

The daily temptations of succumbing to what is around us..

And more importantly…

Those that can be within us.

Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me.

Caught up in conversation

We were as unaware of our exhale

16 but they were kept from recognizing him.

As we were of the symphony God was playing through us

And out into the street, to passerby's

                                                          as we talked.

30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. 32 They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”
Today,

Don’t worry about making Christ ‘happen’…

Living in the bondage of ‘counting breaths’..
                                                                       Living for the destination..
                            And missing the journey.
But Live!

through your acceptance as Jesus Christ as the Son of God…

Walk with Him , on your Way to Emmaus
   Matthew 6
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[e]?

Remembering Today..
-a life of service is a life out of bondage.-
                                                                           Because Charity is not expectant
John 13
12 When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. 13 “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. 16 Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.
          Living with Him,
This great Teacher hands you a towel to love your brother and sister
                   And a diploma that reads..

17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.
