‘If you took all the girls I knew
When I was single
And brought them all together for one night
I know they'd never match
My sweet imagination
And everything looks worse in black and white’
When I was single
And brought them all together for one night
I know they'd never match
My sweet imagination
And everything looks worse in black and white’
(‘Kodachrome’ from the 1973 album ‘There Goes Rhymin’ Simon’ by ‘Paul Simon’)
A sobering moment..
the ‘snapshot’.
It may be out of context
But
it sure can tell the story.
- One day my wife ‘puts on’ a very unflattering face and says…
“This is you…sleeping”
Of course I said ‘you must be thinking of someone else’.
Well, I was dozing one evening…and my cell phone goes off waking me.
Hmmm,
it is a picture message…
from my loving wife..
There I was..
Captured as in the old kodachrome..
Kicked back and conked out in the ‘lounge’ chair
Looking like an old balding, dead man…
mouth open….
head to one side
I most certainly didn’t hear anyone ‘say cheese’!
“See? “
(smiling, waves her little camera phone from across the room, calling me old ‘mr.fartypants’)
The rock n roll days of the ‘80s never looked so far away.
Not a pretty picture.
and you never know Who is taking one…
Or when.
Like some of the ‘pictures’ God may show us one day… of ourselves
Maybe not the ones while we were awake..
Putting on the ‘church’..
But
while we were ‘dreaming’
Sometimes in Life…
like the Savior Jesus the Christ…
‘The Truth’..Isn’t always what you want to know,
but it is what you need.
Today..
Two contenders I consider for first place in knowing a ‘crippled’ walk with Jesus
are ‘remembering’…
and ‘forgetting’.
- ‘We forget to remember …’
‘ remember to forget’ -
By His Grace, Life is a ‘breath’ of given and give.
Regardless of what you have been ‘given’,
It was His to ‘give’ in the first place.
Right?
Genesis 2
7 Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
We forget to remember..
John 8
To remember to forget.
11 “No one, sir,” she said. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”
We forget to remember..
Matthew 3
9 And do not think you can say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham
To remember to forget.
Matthew 71 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
We forget to remember..
John 16
33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
To remember to forget
Luke 23
34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”[
Today
Take a picture…
So maybe when you are ‘dreaming’.. you won’t forget to remember
9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
To remember to forget
12 Forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors
In my short life,
I have found that if I come for the Answer
The One for my ‘mystery’
One
that really addresses my need..
-It is all in how I ask the question.-
17 As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
